KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — The cause of death of a 14-year-old boy found unconscious at a school hostel in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, remains undetermined after a post-mortem conducted on Saturday failed to yield a definitive result, with investigators now awaiting the outcome of further laboratory tests.
The case, which has drawn national attention amid allegations of bullying, prompted police to question 21 individuals and detain a 16-year-old student on remand. The Education Ministry has ordered an immediate school audit in response.
Post-Mortem Conducted at Tuanku Jaafar Hospital Yields No Conclusive Finding
The post-mortem examination was carried out at the Forensic Medicine Department of Tuanku Jaafar Hospital (HTJ) in Seremban, beginning at 10.30am on Saturday and concluding at 3pm, according to Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad.
The examination was performed by forensic pathologist Dr Akma Nurain Fairuz Mahamad Arif. Alzafny confirmed that the procedure was completed but that no cause of death could be established at this stage.
“The results of the post-mortem showed that the cause of death could not be determined at this time, and we are still awaiting the results of further tests,” Alzafny was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.
The 14-year-old student was found unconscious at his school hostel on the night of September 25 and was subsequently transported to Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Hospital in Kuala Pilah, where he was pronounced dead.
21 Statements Recorded, 16-Year-Old Remanded Until October 1 as Bullying Investigation Advances
Police have so far recorded statements from 21 individuals as part of the investigation, including students, teachers, and the deceased boy’s parents, Alzafny confirmed.
A 16-year-old student was detained to assist with the inquiry and was remanded on Saturday for six days, extending until October 1, 2026.
Investigators have opened a case under Section 302 of the Penal Code — Malaysia’s provision for murder — indicating the seriousness with which authorities are treating the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
The investigation is ongoing amid allegations that the 14-year-old may have been subjected to bullying prior to his death, though authorities have not yet confirmed the precise sequence of events leading to him being found unconscious.
Education Ministry Orders School Audit, Pledges Full Cooperation with Police
The Ministry of Education has responded to the incident by ordering an immediate audit of the school in Kuala Pilah following the student’s death. The ministry stated it would cooperate fully with police throughout the investigation.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek visited the school and was briefed by Kuala Pilah district police chief Superintendent Muhamad Mustafah Hussin on the progress of the inquiry.
The ministry’s intervention reflects growing scrutiny over student welfare and hostel supervision standards in Malaysian public schools, particularly in the context of recurring reports of school bullying.
