ISKANDAR PUTERI, Aug 16 — Two car drivers have been arrested by Johor police for allegedly acting as unauthorised marshals, deliberately obstructing traffic at Bulatan Lebuh Kota Iskandar to clear the road for a passing luxury car convoy.
Iskandar Puteri deputy police chief Supt Saifullah Jaya @ Yahaya confirmed the arrests were carried out by the district’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division on Saturday, a day after a video of the incident circulated widely on social media platform Threads at approximately 6.16pm.
“Acting on a public complaint, the Iskandar Puteri District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division conducted an operation to trace the individuals involved,” Saifullah said in a statement.
According to Saifullah, investigations established that the supercar convoy was travelling from Puteri Harbour in the direction of Johor Bahru city centre when the two drivers positioned themselves at the roundabout and stopped other vehicles to allow the convoy unimpeded passage.
The case is being investigated under Section 110 of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers obstruction and interference offences. A conviction under that provision carries a maximum fine of RM1,000.
Beyond the two arrests, police issued four summonses for separate offences related to non-compliance with vehicle specifications. The vehicles involved in the incident have been seized pending further action.
Saifullah used the occasion to issue a firm reminder to the public that police would take action against anyone who acts as an unauthorised convoy escort.
“Such actions clearly endanger themselves and other road users,” he said, adding that police would not compromise with individuals who obstruct traffic or stop other road users without proper authorisation. — Bernama
